Zerbe Farms
SERVICES
GRAIN
The majority of products raised by Zerbe Farms is Dark Hard Northern Spring wheat, which is a very high protein spring wheat and is only raised in the very northern regions of the United States. The other grain products include winter wheat and durum.
PULSE CROPS
In 1993, Grant began to produce high quality crops of lentils, yellow and green peas, and chick peas (garbanzo beans). The implementation of these crops into the overall farming rotation improves soil health. This is due to the fact that pulse crops can fixate nitrogen from the atmosphere and store the natural nitrogen in the soil thus producing nitrogen for the following grain crops. This reduces the need for man made fertilizers, thus decreasing CO2 gases which inevitably helps the environment and diminishes overall fertilizer costs.
Additionally, we have started producing oil seeds beginning with canola.
AVIATION
With over 35 years of aviation experience, Grant holds a private, instrument, and agricultural aerial application licenses. Clayton also attained his private license in 2008 and is an avid airman. Aviation is a vital part of Zerbe Farms operation and is seen in aerial application, scouting fields, parts deliveries, or business meetings. With their own lighted landing strip, planes are able to land through out the day and night which helps keep up with the busy farming seasons. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identifier is MT 51 (Zerbe Strip).
